ONE Thought (from us)
What a gift. God has, in his infinite goodness, given to humankind the weighty, wonderful institution of marriage. We’ve found, that if a couple understands the gift of marriage, they are better prepared and equipped to face the challenges they face in it. Here are three reasons we know marriage is just plain awesome:
- It existed pre-Fall. Marriage is the only institution that existed prior to the Fall. Marriage is God’s Plan A for the flourishing of humankind. Do you regard it as such? Or do you think of it as fundamentally flawed?
- It is held in high regard. We’re warned throughout Scripture to treat marriage as the high calling it is. This is because it’s designed to help couples in every possible way so long as it’s enjoyed as God intended. Do you hold your marriage in high regard? (See the verse below.)
- It is a mini-gospel. Everything God has done after Genesis 3 (The Fall) has been to reconcile the Bride of Christ (God’s people) with her Bridegroom (Christ). He likens marriage to the relationship between Christ and his Church. This changes everything about how we relate to one another in marriage. Do you view your marriage as a sort of mini-gospel story? How might your healthy marriage be “good news” to those in your life?
If any of those reasons resonate with you, we encourage you to listen to this week’s podcast episode where we go into each one in much more detail.
“Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” (Hebrews 13:4)
ONE Quote (from another)
“What every married couple needs to know is that their marriage is a remnant of Eden. This is why every marriage is worth working at, worth fighting for. A marriage filled with hope in God is nothing less than an afterglow of the garden of Eden, radiant with hope until perfection is finally restored.”
