“My wife wears revealing clothes to the gym, what should I do?”

ONE Thought (from us)

Modesty is part of the Christian life (1 Peter 3:1–5, 1 Timothy 2). But how should couples approach disagreement about what’s modest or not? AND… what if you’re a husband who is uncomfortable with how your wife dresses at the gym? (Or at the beach, even?) And, what if a husband feels disrespected by how his wife dresses?

There are expressly biblical, Christian ways to think about how we present ourselves in public places. The question is, are we taking what the Bible says to heart? There is a way to communicate in love and not get defensive when discussing attire. But we must first humble ourselves, submit to God’s Word, and act accordingly.

We discussed these questions and more on our recent podcast episode (Spotify, Apple Podcasts). We hope it blesses you!

“…but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”
(1 Peter 3:4)

ONE Quote (from another)

“Husband and wife must delight in the love and company, and lives of each other. When husband and wife take pleasure in each other, it unites them in duty, it helps them with ease to do their work, and bear their burdens; and is a major part of the comfort of marriage.”
– Richard Baxter

ONE Question (for you)

How does how your spouse dresses make you feel? Do you think those feelings are legitimate? Why or why not? And… why not have a conversation with them about it?

Note: We talked about this topic in this week’s podcast episode. Be sure to watch or listen to get the full discussion!
