Kisses that Destroy the Gates of Hell, C.R. Wiley, and the Cosmic Cold War on Marriage

ONE Thought (from us)

When you kiss your spouse to bed tonight—despite having had a fight—it’s another blow of the battering ram against the gates of hell. Your marriage (yes, yours!) matters because it stands as a beacon of God’s light in a world where darkness would love nothing more than to snuff it out. Paul said we do not wage war against flesh and blood, and the same is true in marriage. Our enemy wants to destroy what is good, and marriage is at the top of his list.

If the above sounds crazy to you, you’ll have to check out this week’s podcast episode. If you’re already convinced, here are three ways to fight back:

  1. Stay married! Fight for your marriage—that you may thrive, even through difficulty—and trust that God is fighting for you in the process.
  2. Teach your children the beauty of marriage. Don’t let culture have a louder opinion about marriage than you in the hearts of your children.
  3. Actively oppose the narrative. Celebrate all that is good and beautiful about your marriage; let it show!

Why fight? Because we believe marriage is designed by God for human flourishing, and it’s worth preserving for future generations!

Our prayer is that your marriage will be one that the enemy despises because you glorify God in how you communicate, how you honor one another, and how you show intimacy throughout various trials. That, we think, is what it means to have a truly fierce marriage.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”
(Ephesians 6:12)

ONE Quote (from another)

“We have the fulcrum of the world in our possession, and that gives us leverage. I am talking about our households. But the principalities know this, and that is why they are obsessively working to break them down.”
– C.R. Wiley

ONE Question (for you)

Do you believe your marriage has cosmic context? If so, how might that change how you communicate, honor, and love your spouse today?
