ONE Thought (from us)
God cares how we steward our money, how we spend it, and how we GIVE it away. Yet, many couples struggle to live with faith and unity in this area. Thankfully, the Bible isn’t silent about money and a quick reading of 2 Corinthians 8 gives us much guidance with regard to a believer’s heart toward giving. While we explored the seven takeaways regarding giving and generosity in our recent podcast episode, they can be summarized like this. Christians are called to give in three ways:
- Sacrificially: we should feel it (Mark 12:43–44)
- Joyfully: we should enjoy it (2 Corinthians 9:6–7)
- Generously: we should look for ways to give (2 Corinthians 8:3–4)
The key to finding unity in marriage around giving is to understand together what God requires, then live faithfully and in a faith-filled manner unto Him. Find out what God requires, pray for faith to obey, then watch with eager anticipation how he might be glorified as you walk in faith.
“For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.”
(2 Corinthians 8:3–5)
ONE Quote (from another)
““The fellow that has no money is poor. The fellow that has nothing but money is poorer still.”
– Billy Sunday
ONE Question (for you)
Have you ever felt challenged or convicted about your giving unity and/or habits? Why or why not, and what can you do to grow in this area as a couple?
BONUS: One TOOL
In the Frederick household, one tool we’ve found to be incredibly helpful is Qapital. They let you set and forget your giving/saving goals in creative, helpful ways. With it, we’ve been able to automate some of our tithing objectives while also saving for things like four future weddings… (yay for all daughters!). Check it out by visiting our link and they’ll give you $25 just for setting up your first goal!
Please note: we will get $25, too, though we’d share the tool even if we didn’t get the bonus! We’re genuine fans, but if you use our link and set up a goal, you’ll be supporting this ministry.
We covered this topic in this week’s podcast episode! We encourage you to give it a listen or a watch!
Until next week, stay fierce!
